WSOP Academy grad Cortney Sheiner placed second at WSOP Circuit Event.

The Academy would like to congratulate Cortney Sheiner for finishing second in the WSOP Ladies Circuit Event held last week at the Harrah’s Resort WSOP Circuit Event in Atlantic City. She outlasted a field of 178 taking home over $8,000. Cortney attended the WSOP Academy at Showboat in November with Greg Raymer, Joe Navarro, Alex Outhred and Michael Gracz.  She credited the Academy with giving her the confidence and new-found skills she needed to take down 2nd place.

WSOP Academy is offering Cash Game Academies in Atlantic City and Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – While winning is how poker players earn their fame, it is cash game play where they earn their living, and beginning in 2009, the World Series of Poker Academy, poker’s premier series of instructional camps, will provide poker players of all skill levels with the foundation and tools needed to become a consistent winning cash game player with the launch of its new Cash Game Academy, a two-day, intensive poker school dedicated exclusively to No Limit Hold’em cash game play.

The WSOP Academy will present two Cash Game Academy events to kick off its busy 2009 season, the first of which will be held at Harrah’s Atlantic City on Jan. 24 – 25. Then two weeks later, the WSOP Academy will head to Las Vegas to host a Cash Game Academy at Caesars Palace on Feb. 7 - 8. Both events will feature world-class instruction from top poker pros, with Mark Seif, Paul Wasicka and Alex Outhred among the instructors scheduled for the Atlantic City event and Seif, Outhred and Michael Gracz slated for the Las Vegas event.

“The WSOP Academy has successfully helped players make it to the final table and win bracelets by teaching tournament strategy, but to become an overall winning poker player you must also become a consistent cash game player,” said Brandon Rosen of Post Oak Productions, the company that produces the WSOP Academy. “Your cash game skills and results will likely determine your success and more importantly, your longevity as a poker player. With this in mind, we created the Cash Game Academy.”

The new Cash Game Academy will teach participants winning cash game strategy through two days of in-depth seminars, live play workshops, video analysis and a cash game competition, all taught by some of the world’s top cash game poker players. The program is designed for all skill levels, be it beginner, intermediate or advance.

Featuring all new materials and teaching methods unlike any past WSOP Academy event, the new Cash Game Academy will cover topics such as the transition from tournament play to cash game play, development of reading ability and putting opponents on hand ranges, bankroll management and sophisticated plays and strategies specific to cash game play. Each event will also offer video analysis of cash game play, with instructors dissecting hands and situations and discuss alternative lines of play.

Get closer to a WSOP bracelet with the WSOP Academy

A key component of each Cash Game Academy will be a Cash Game Competition hosted on day two of each event. Players will compete against their fellow WSOP Academy participants to determine who made the most correct decisions and managed their bankroll the best during a simulated cash game. The winner will receive an all-expense trip to Caesars Palace Las Vegas for the WSOP Academy Tournament of Champions just prior to the Main Event of the 2009 World Series of Poker.

The WSOP Academy roster of pro poker players and instructors have all enjoyed tournament success and have been sharing their secrets on tournament strategy since its inception. However, before they gained fame and fortune winning tournaments, they were making a living playing cash games.

“Our pro instructors have a proven track record of being winning cash game players. They know that a successful poker career is determined by your ‘staying power’ and your ability to win at the cash game tables,” noted Rosen. “Now, much like they have done for our Tournament Academies, the WSOP Academy instructors will now impart their knowledge and expertise for cash games.”

Tuition for each of the two Cash Game Academies is $1,899.00, with a payment of only $499.75 required to secure a spot. The additional tuition payment owed will be billed each month for the three following months.

WSOP Academy featured in Casino Player Magazine

Freelance Writer and San Francisco Chronicle gaming columnist Matt Villano anted up $1,499 to experience the WSOP Academy’s two-day Tournament Academy at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles this past September and he wrote up an article for Casino Player Magazine about what he learned.

In an effort to better himself as a poker player, he took lessons from Ali Nejad and Kenny Tran and even got Annie Duke to yell at him for playing a suited 10-4 after a long lecture from her about over-valuing suited cards. Joe Navarro’s poker tells were up next and proved invaluable.

Said Villano of the session, “Throughout this latter lecture, my fellow ’students’ were like congregants at a Southern Baptist mass, nodding their heads demonstratively and occassionally mouthing, ‘Right, right.‘”

Turns out the lessons definitely paid off well for him as he walked straight into the main poker room and bought into a $3/$5 No Limit Holdem game for $200 and proceeded to walk away with $300 in profit. Not too shabby.

Poker instruction by Michael Gracz was among the highlights for Academy grad Gene

WSOP Academy poker instructor and poker tells expert Joe Navarro

WSOP Academy students are typically excited just for the opportunity to learn more about the game from our world-class poker instructors.  For Hamid Tabai, the experience was made complete by winning the final tournament at the WSOP Academy event held at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, last week.

After two full days of intensive poker instruction with poker pros Greg Raymer, Michael Gracz, Alex Outhred and poker tells expert Joe Navarro, Tabai was ready to test his poker skills at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City.  Obviously, the teaching paid off – literally – as Tabai won a $5,000 buy-in to an upcoming WSOP Circuit Event.

We are excited to have Tabai represent the WSOP Academy, possibly in the next WSOP Circuit Event, which will be held at Harrah’s Atlantic City on December 4-15.  However, if Tabai wants to fit in a little more practice before then, he’ll have his choice at one of the many WSOP Circuit events scheduled for 2009.  Either way, we hope to see him at the final table!

LAS VEGAS – The World Series of Poker Academy, poker’s premier series of instructional camps where participants learn first-hand from the world’s greatest poker players, today announced details for its upcoming academies this November, including the introduction of a new “Play Now, Pay Later” program that allows participants to easily spread their tuition payments out over time.

The first of the two WSOP Academy events will be a two-day Advanced Academy held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, on Nov. 7 – 8, just ahead of the WSOP Main Event final table. Then, at the end of November, the WSOP Academy will head to Atlantic City to host a two-day Academy at the Showboat Casino, on Nov. 22 – 23.

With the “Play Now, Pay Later” program, participants can secure a spot at either event by paying only 25% of the tuition cost, with the remaining amount due in three equal monthly payments.

“We’re making it easier than ever for poker players to invest in their poker game and become winning players with our Play Now, Pay Later program,” said Jeff Goldenberg of Post Oak Productions, the company that produces the WSOP Academy. “Our WSOP Academy events this November will feature some of the biggest names in poker sharing their secrets and strategies. I’m confident our Academy grads will walk away with the confidence and skills they need to be a threat at the table.”

The upcoming Advanced Academy in Las Vegas will feature a world-class roster of instructors including Phil Gordon, Mark Seif, Paul Wasicka, Alex Outhred, poker tells expert Joe Navarro and making their first appearance at an Academy event, Prof. Charley Swayne, an expert in probability and statistics specifically as they relate to poker and Sam Chauhan, a motivational speaker who will be teaching a seminar on the optimal poker mindset.

The event will feature the WSOP Academy’s most advanced curriculum on No Limit Texas Hold’em theory and strategy, including the advanced math of poker, winning cash game strategy, advanced tournament stage strategy, heads-up strategy, advanced seminar on decoding poker tells and much more.

At the WSOP Academy event in Atlantic City, 2004 World Champion Greg Raymer, Alex Outhred, Hevad Khan and poker tells expert Joe Navarro will lead instruction as they present in-depth seminars, live hand demonstrations and interactive workshops that cover all aspects of No-Limit Texas Hold ‘em strategy, from playing position and calculating pot odds to the importance of aggression and changing gears.

At both Academy events, private tournaments will be held with winners receiving a $5,000 WSOP Circuit Main Event seat at an event of their choice.

Tuition for the Advanced Academy is $1,999, with a payment of only $499 required to secure a spot. The cost of the Atlantic City event is $1,499 with a payment of only $375 needed to register. The additional tuition payments will be billed each month for the three following months.
